Couldn't install on USB storage or SD card

troubleshooting

symptom
when updating apps installed on sd card, fail to install after downloading and "Couldn't install on USB storage or SD card." message is popped up

situation

• apps installed on sd card
• android 2.2
• htc desire z
• problem encountered on 2011-06-18

cause
it is believed caused by corrupted file system on sd card and file "smdl2tmp1.asec" is not correctly removed in previous installation

possible solution 1

1. mount the sd card together with the device on a pc or mac via usb
2. remove the file "smdl2tmp1.asec" located in /mnt/sdcard/.android_secure

notes
the file directory of ".android_secure" is not visible from android as it is protected by the os

possible solution 2

1. move the app to phone memory / unmount sd card
2. install update
3. move the app to sd card

comments

• this issue is solved on android 2.3 as described by others (not my experience)
• keep a good practice of updating app in market such that no improper instruction/situation during the update procedures (e.g. sudden battery removal, force close market app during update)

SopCast on my Mac

Here is the solution of watching live soccer match with SopCast that works on my Mac.

Hardware
MacBook
2 GHz Intel Core 2 Duo
1 GB 667 MHz DDR2 SDRAM

Software
Mac OS X 10.4.11
X11 1.1.3
WineBottler 1.1.44 (http://winebottler.kronenberg.org/)
SopCast 3.2.9 (http://www.sopcast.org/)
MPlayer OSX Extended rev11 (http://www.mplayerosx.ch/)

Steps
1. Make sure X11 is properly installed.
2. Open WineBottler dmg file and install Wine.app.
3. Run Wine. It should have created a virtual "drive_c" under the user directory in Mac.
4. Place the SopCast exe installation file somewhere inside "drive_c" in the Mac environment.
5. Open Control Panel in Wine. (which would also launch X11)
6. Install SopCast by locating the installation file in Wine. (which would be installed in "driver_c/Program Files")
7. Open File Manager in Wine. Run SopCast.
8. Connect to a channel. A Player should slide out without screen (but it's progressing).
10. Run MPlayer OSX Extended in Mac. Open Preferences and make sure Cache is enabled, like say 16 MB.
11. Open location mms://127.0.0.1:8902. (Try 8903 or 8912 if it failed)

That's it!

Notes
If the OS version is later than 10.4, newer software version or different combination could be used. This is just one of the possible solutions that works in my situation.

the great china in my eyes

剛剛在 google maps 上暢遊了泰山、廬山、莫高窟、樂山大佛等國內景點，又查找了青藏鐵路、敦煌、天山、華山等資訊。

事緣下星期將到北京青島旅遊，計劃其中一站上泰山遊覽，於是搜尋有關泰山旅遊的資料：找住宿、找景點、找地圖。google maps 有個功能 earth view 可連繫 google earth 看到當地的 3D 地勢。一看你就會知道，泰山確是山東一帶明顯突兀的雄峰峻嶺，難怪被譽為「五嶽之首」，親臨其下應是小弟生來見過最磅礴氣勢的山嶽。

上網最令人嚇怕之處就是資訊之多及方便。泰山既為五嶽之首，於是又鏈接到五嶽之一華山，於是又從 google maps 找尋華山的位置，及其立體地形。如是者，不知怎樣就找到了「中國山脈」及「世界遺產」的章目，進入了武當山、崑崙山、天山，然後又去到四川的樂山看大佛、敦煌看莫高窟、曲阜看孔廟⋯⋯最離譜的是竟去到新疆的鄰國哈薩克、吉爾吉斯、塔吉克，這些國家的名字我連聽都未聽過。相傳李白原來出生於吉爾吉斯境內，當時稱為西域碎葉的地方。⋯⋯

之後又從百科全書中看了很多關於這些名勝古蹟的地理環境、歷史發展。原來樂山大佛曾經有一座十三層樓閣建之於上，阻擋日曬雨淋，及後毀於戰火，民國時又成了軍隊練習的炮靶。莫高窟原來由一個叫王圓籙的道士發現，但他以低價將洞內的典籍壁畫賤賣給當時的外來探險者和考古學家，如今敦煌文物大部份都被收藏於大英博物館之中。孔廟在文化大革命期間由於「批林批孔」運動，其古蹟文物都曾被破壞。⋯⋯

這時剛巧亞視正在播放 95 年甄子丹主演的《精武門》，這一集講述他身處之上海被洋人侵佔，當時的富裕華人與洋人勾結，剝奪工人酬勞，「賣豬仔」 往金山，又講述一場戲在新春時候大夫不肯為其妹看症，要求收取雙倍診金。

電視劇情與剛才所了解的歷史均令人慨嘆中國人這幾千年文明以來的醜態恥辱，中國人的思想文化一直這樣，即使到了 21 世紀的今天，只是現象輕微了，但情況依然。歷史文明角度最具價值的，視之如糞土，毫不猶豫就毀壞了、賤賣了；關於整個民族尊嚴的、同胞的精神，為了金錢都放棄了。中國人的價值觀都放到那裡去，都放到金錢利益、權力鬥爭之中。尤其為了錢，真的甚麼都做得出來，至少在新聞中不久就會看到關於有毒奶粉、搶劫、冒充品牌等駭人聽聞的消息，這些都是作為中國人身份在國際社會上最感到羞恥的劣行。

話扯得太遠了，本來我是想說，在網上遊覽了這麼多神州大地上的巍峨建築，令我真的很想有機會逐一拜訪，看看那種經歷歷史琢磨依然屹立不倒的姿態，感受當年古人的所見所聞。要看清看楚的話，實在有太多景點值得花時間逗留。但是可見的將來，機會真的渺茫，很難得才有這一趟畢業旅行到北京青島去，可預見十天的旅程很多地方只能走馬看花，不能奢想有怎樣深入的了解。此刻的我在想，或者只有一人的自由行，才能走遍我想走的路程，要決擇的便是甚麼時候找個伴，甚麼時候要孤身走我路⋯⋯

這一部我有少少印象，中一打後時間都用在它身上。當時喜歡自己寫網頁，上網找些東西來玩玩，那個應該還是 56k 的時代吧，現在實在不曉得慢得如蝸牛的機器當時有甚麼好玩，正如現在這部 macbook 對比別人的都是很慢很廢的⋯之後好像中四以後又買了新一部⋯

I got such a message caught as spam in my mailbox yesterday. It was actually sent to my Hotmail account. Take a look at the footer with some Chinese which was the ad appended by Hotmail boasting of its so-called "reliable and powerful" spam control. That's why I should never trust this global enterprise.

google latitude

I'd like to introduce Google Latitude to you.

Google Latitude is a late Google product that gets your friends know the geolocation of you. That is it tells you where somebody physically is. It provides 2 ways as media to get the geolocation - mobile & iGoogle. On mobile, it is added to the Google Maps and located by cell ID or wireless connection (WiFi), whereas on iGoogle, it is entirely located by wireless connection.

How it works

According to the help articles, Google's WiFi location database is developed by getting use of the MAC address of the nearby WiFi access points. That is, it learns from the MAC address of the wireless access point that you have connected to and locates where you are. As what I have tried, the accuracy of the location is up to few hundred meters of the access point. And what Latitude claims is, similar to the access range of a WiFi router.

Applications

By inviting and confirmed by your friends, you can share your geolocation with your friends and see where they are. (Just give it a try!) And, Google has issued 2 more applications - Google Public Location Badge and Google Talk Location Status. The former one lets you publish your location on your blog or website, like what you see from the side bar of my site. The latter just shows your city-level location in text on Google Talk, as well as Gmail chat.

Privacy

The first idea that comes into my mind is that how can Google get my geolocation so accurately with which I just connect to the Internet and open the webpage. It can just locate my country with my unique IP address. Also, how is the information handled? Who else can see where I am when I am moving from here to there? I wonder if somebody else could use the same means to locate me and trace me...

I hope Google really carries out what it has promised in its strict privacy policy and handles it well as long as it always tries to store personal and private information of every single user in its database.

22/7 晚收工後去了踢皮球
那是幾間分店的同事的一項聯誼活動
倒給我又開了眼界
一直只活在自己的圈子裡, 從來沒有想過有這種事情的發生
球原來可以這樣踢
踢到三點多
回家了
小巴上每條路都曾經認識
車上卻一個人都不認識, 感覺不太好

想起平時我們早上在新翠踢足球
那真是一個強烈的對比
自從離開了學校, 我的生活真的作了很大的改變
以前每天早上七點起床
現在不夠三點都睡不著覺
七年以來都是對著那幾十副面孔
現在差不多每天都會認識一個在不同世界生活的人
自高考以後
我感覺失去了一班朋友
因為再沒有每天的見面, 沒有頻頻的聚會
不過經過時間的沖洗
我開始明白接受這是必然面對的事
相處方式應該改變一下
彼此的感覺其實一直未變

文字不是一種可靠的工具
給自己看還可以
寫給別人只能當是一些表面的修飾
或者說, 我的文字總不能作有效的溝通

很喜歡自己一個走路
我發覺讀中化讀壞腦了
不斷在想關於文化篇章的內容
wonder vs concern, 分與合
其實我認為實是兩者兼備, 只不過
不知道那個是出發點, 那個是歸向點... confused
另外想到的, 就是
我發覺我在新城市的範圍內
很介意別人怎麼看我, 而我亦不停望別人的衣著
就像覺得自己入了上流社會, 格格不入
是否我自卑心太重? 抑或我根本不適合到這些地方?

當我走到瀝源, 禾輋, 城門河之上
我感到很舒服, relaxed
好像膊上的重擔卸下了
我欣賞的是四周的環境, 建築, 風景
例如禾輋的井形公屋, 瀝源的鳥語和簡樸的居民生活
一橋之隔, 真是兩個差天共地的世界
橋的作用把兩個世界拉近, 但沒有了橋才可將兩個世界強烈地對比起來
還有 "生命 '手查' fit 人" 取景的馬路
不知你有沒有看過
朱茵與黃貫中在瀝源某街道上踏單車, 那場景
今日重遊, 看不見這班四處遊蕩的年青人
不過就如他倆最後回到那裡彷彿看到那情景, 很是特別

在新城市的時候我很著緊自己今天穿得是否很怪誕
是否不應這樣配襯
不過當我走到城門河之上時
我擔心的是我會否被清風吹走了, 吹到河裡去
那真是很不同的感覺
站在物質面前, 想的只能是物質
但站到它之外, 就會豁然明白到,
那只是煙火雲霧, 一息間就消散幻滅
城門河不再像以前被冠的臭名遠播
現在它是可愛的
映襯在這河的岸上, 是不同年代建成, 不同風格而千姿百態的住宅樓宇
一再引起我注意的, 就是那穗禾苑
容我以巍峨形容它那屹立高處的氣勢
樓閣的分佈, 每一幢的輪廓, 都超出河畔一帶屋苑可見的
實在非常引人注目
不知道住在裡面的人看站在城門河畔的我, 又是怎樣的滋味?

放鬆了, 明天的 ue 盡力好了
不過顯然兩科 al 不夠時間準備
看來還是要 "執生"

something about self-studying

after staying at a cramped room in sun tin wai for more than 2 weeks
i found it no more suitable for me to study there, facing 4 sides of wall, silence and inadequate fresh air
i fall asleep soon no matter how energetic i am at that day
sometimes i even have to stay outside of the room to listen to the shouts and screams by the kids
because it's too stressful to be looking at the books and papers without talking to others

in fact, i think that in sha tin library is much better
the light colour, the spacious room, the nearby ntp are all favourable to me
you don't have to worry about the opening hour,
as it's just the same 3 sessions for the whole week
when looking for somebody to answer your question,
you'd walk around the tables and search for your friends
no chatting in the room but you are indeed gossiping about everything except the question you are asking
you'll hardly get bored as many people are going in and out of the room every second
you can look at them and think about what they are doing
funny, amusing, entertaining are all my feelings in sha tin studying room

i highly recommend you to try google's services and experience the advanced technology on web application and its fresh philosophy -
